Weekend Rainfall: What Baton Rouge Residents Can Expect!

An upper-level low pressure system is set to move inland from the Gulf, leading to widespread rainfall in Baton Rouge this Friday. Scattered rain is expected to start in the morning, with temperatures ranging from the mid to upper 60s.

Throughout the day, intermittent showers and thunderstorms are predicted, particularly in the afternoon, although these should begin to taper off in the evening. The HRRR model forecasts indicate a strong likelihood of rain across south Louisiana and southwest Mississippi during this time.

As we move into Mother’s Day weekend, the upper-low will linger in the region, ensuring that scattered showers and thunderstorms remain a possibility. Fortunately, neither day of the weekend is anticipated to be a total washout, with daytime highs generally reaching the mid to upper 70s.

Regarding rainfall totals, the Weather Prediction Center estimates that most areas will receive around 1.5 inches or less, but localized heavier storms could lead to amounts of 2 to 3 inches or more in certain hotspots.

Looking ahead, Monday is expected to be the last day of scattered rains before a significantly drier pattern, accompanied by warmer temperatures, begins by the later part of the week. Highs could approach 90 degrees as this transition unfolds.

This wet start to the weekend might bring some challenges, but it is crucial for replenishing local water sources and supporting the natural ecosystem. Residents can prepare for the rain while also enjoying the benefits that come with it.
