Waves of Confidence: Fiji’s Girls Surf Clinic Sparks Sisterhood

The 11th Annual Fiji Girls Surf Clinic kicked off in Nadi over the weekend, bringing together women and girls not just for surfing, but to celebrate connection, confidence, and community. Fiji Surfing President, Hannah Bennett, highlighted the event’s broader goal of fostering confidence and building strong female role models, while nurturing the bonds between mothers and daughters.

The clinic, held at the Intercontinental Golf Resort & Spa Fiji, was co-sponsored by non-profit organization Rise Beyond The Reef, Dilo-Up Skincare, and Salted Swimwear, and welcomed participants of all skill levels. Bennett expressed her delight with the strong turnout and shared her hopes to see more women and girls joining future clinics. “This event has always been about more than just surfing. It’s about building confidence, creating strong female role models, and nurturing those special relationships between mothers and daughters,” she emphasized.

Set against Natadola’s stunning backdrop, attendees enjoyed surf coaching, beachside activities, and an array of culinary delights. Events like these not only highlight the dynamic surf culture in Fiji but also reinforce the country’s dedication to promoting community and empowerment through sports.

The spirit of this clinic aligns with similar initiatives such as the World Surf League events and other community-driven programs emphasizing women’s leadership and youth involvement in sports. Such efforts continue to underscore the commitment to creating inclusive environments where women and young girls can thrive, both in sport and in broader social contexts.

This positive and empowering event demonstrates the potential for sports, particularly surfing, to act as a unifying force and catalyst for personal growth and community bonding in Fiji. There’s hope that these initiatives will continue to grow, inspiring more women and girls to participate and stay engaged in outdoor activities, fortifying their roles as strong, confident individuals within their communities.
