CBS has unveiled its fall 2025 programming schedule, revealing that the second season of the medical detective series “Watson” will not be included. Instead, its return is slated for midseason, likely around January 2026. This decision aligns with the show’s original debut timeframe and aims to give it a better chance of success while alleviating the crowded fall lineup filled with both new and returning shows.

“Watson,” led by Morris Chestnut, originally premiered on January 26, following the AFC Championship game, which helped boost its initial ratings. However, moving forward, it is anticipated that CBS will hold the new season until after the Super Bowl, likely in February 2026, to avoid the challenges posed by the hectic January schedule, which is dominated by award shows and NFL games.

This upcoming season promises new storylines, including an episode entitled “The Camgirl Inquiry,” where Watson assists a colleague dealing with a personal emergency. However, the series faces a challenging shift in its scheduling as it will no longer lead into “Tracker,” now set for a later time slot following the new spinoff “Y: Marshals.” Late Sunday night slots have historically been tough for many shows, including past CBS titles like “Madam Secretary” and “NCIS: New Orleans,” which raises concerns about the show’s longevity.

Despite these hurdles, “Watson” continues to be available for streaming on Paramount+, encouraging viewers to catch up before its finale in May. The hope remains that a dedicated audience will tune in to support the show and perhaps secure its place for a third season. The strong premise and engaging characters provide a solid foundation for future episodes to thrive, should the viewership optimistically rally in its favor.
