PULLMAN, Wash. — Emmanuel Ugbo, a forward for Washington State, has been officially suspended for the remainder of the season following a court order stemming from a domestic dispute. Coach David Riley announced that Ugbo, who has not participated in any games or practices since his initial suspension on January 28, will not return to the roster.
Riley emphasized the institution’s commitment to maintaining a safe environment, stating, “As an institution, we believe that’s the best course of action.”
The circumstances surrounding Ugbo’s suspension involve serious allegations made by a Washington State women’s volleyball player, who accused him of stalking and harassment after their relationship ended. In light of these claims, a judge in Whitman County issued a full protection order for the woman against Ugbo.
Ugbo’s suspension took effect during the Cougars’ home game on January 31, shortly after the volleyball player sought a temporary protection order. During the season, the 6-foot-8, 245-pound Netherlands native contributed an average of 6.7 points and 3.5 rebounds over 18 minutes of play per game. Prior to joining Washington State, Ugbo played at Boise State.
This incident reflects the increasing awareness and zero-tolerance policy regarding personal conduct in sports programs, highlighting the importance of safety for all students involved.
