In the inaugural season of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League, two former University of Washington standouts have received prestigious end-of-season accolades. Outfielder Jadelyn Allchin and utility player Baylee Klingler were both named to the All-Defense team, a recognition awarded to ten of the league’s finest defenders.
Allchin, who finished her collegiate career at UCLA after transferring from Washington, excelled defensively as a member of the Talons, recording 37 putouts with an impressive fielding percentage of .974. She played primarily in left field for the Talons, who boasted a commendable record of 18-6 this season. Notably, she was included among the five Talons players on the All-Defense team, alongside Defensive Player of the Year Hannah Flippen.
Klingler, who had a standout career at the Huskies from 2020 to 2023, demonstrated her defensive prowess as part of the Blaze. She had 37 putouts and contributed to four double plays, maintaining a fielding percentage of .957 while primarily playing third base for the Blaze’s 7-17 season. Klingler was drafted as a core player in the eighth round and began her season strong, hitting two home runs within her first six games. After a setback due to a head injury, she rebounded remarkably, recording RBIs in all three games during a highly anticipated series against fellow Huskies alum Sis Bates.
Allchin’s journey this season began in the Reserve Athlete Pool, where she initially served as a substitute before permanently joining the Talons as an injury replacement. She displayed an impressive offensive skill set, ending the season with an exceptional on-base percentage and leading the league in stolen bases.
Both players have faced distinct challenges yet rose to the occasion, earning league-wide honors through their determination and talent. The AUSL Championship series is set to commence on Saturday, featuring Allchin’s Talons, who also include another Husky alum, Ali Aguilar, competing against the Bandits, the only team without a Washington alum on the roster.
This recognition not only highlights the individual achievements of Allchin and Klingler but also reflects the growing influence of the University of Washington’s softball program in professional leagues, paving the way for future players to aspire to similar accolades.
