Warriors Waive Seth Curry as Cap Space Looms, Plan November Return

The Golden State Warriors have parted ways with Seth Curry just days before the start of the regular season, a move that was anticipated as the team intends to re-sign him next month once financial conditions allow. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, this strategy is part of the Warriors’ plan to manage their roster effectively under salary cap restrictions.

On Saturday, the Warriors officially announced the release of both guards, LJ Cryer and Seth Curry. Cryer participated in five preseason games, averaging 5.0 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.6 rebounds over 9.6 minutes. He joined the Warriors on September 29, following an undrafted career out of the University of Houston. Meanwhile, Seth Curry, an 11-year NBA veteran and brother of superstar Steph Curry, did not see any playing time during the preseason.

As a result of this transaction, the Warriors’ roster now features 17 players. While Curry has been waived, indications suggest that he will rejoin the team in early November. This vacancy is kept open as the Warriors’ current financial limitations prevent them from accommodating his veteran minimum contract prior to that date.

Seth Curry’s return to the Warriors is notable, as he originally launched his NBA career with the franchise’s G-League team. Last season, he played for the Charlotte Hornets, averaging 6.5 points and 1.7 rebounds per game and notably shooting 45.6 percent from three-point range.

As the Warriors prepare for the season, they hope to bolster their roster while navigating cap constraints, aiming for another successful campaign.
