The Golden State Warriors have made some tough decisions as they finalize their roster ahead of the new season. In a recent announcement, the team confirmed they have waived guards LJ Cryer and Seth Curry.
Cryer, a 24-year-old guard and NCAA champion, had a brief stint with the Warriors during the preseason. Over five games, he averaged 5.0 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.6 rebounds in just under ten minutes per appearance. The Louisiana native went undrafted after his college career at the University of Houston, from which he signed with the Warriors on September 29. Despite not being a primary scorer during his freshman year, Cryer improved significantly in his sophomore year, which garnered the Warriors’ attention when he became an undrafted free agent.
During his time with the Warriors, Cryer showcased his shooting abilities, especially during a preseason game against the Portland Trail Blazers where he achieved 14 points, shooting 80% from the field and a perfect 100% from beyond the arc. However, despite these promising performances, the Warriors ultimately decided to not include him in their opening night lineup, leaving Cryer seeking opportunities elsewhere for the upcoming season.
As the team looks forward, it remains committed to building a competitive roster, even amidst difficult personnel decisions. The future may hold new opportunities for players like Cryer, who demonstrated talent and potential during his time with the franchise.
