In a thrilling home opener at Jim Boyd Gymnasium on Tuesday night, the West Point Warriors and Lady Warriors both secured impressive victories against rivals Hanceville. The Lady Warriors showcased their resilience after a challenging first half, dominating the second half with a 30-8 scoring spree to win 59-35. Meanwhile, the Warriors displayed a robust performance led by Maddox Chapman, who scored an outstanding 33 points, defeating the Bulldogs 73-47.

Before the girls’ game commenced, Lady Warriors Head Coach John Welborn was honored for achieving his 200th career victory at West Point, which was celebrated during their previous game at Holly Pond. With the latest win, Welborn’s career record now stands at an impressive 201-104.

In the boys’ matchup, early points from Hanceville saw them lead briefly. Still, West Point quickly regained momentum, with Chapman persistently contributing, particularly in the latter quarters, to help establish a significant lead. The team outperformed Hanceville, ending the game with a comfortable 73-47 score.

The girls’ game was more tightly contested initially, with lead changes and close scores resulting in a 29-25 advantage for West Point at halftime. The Warriors then took charge in the second half, led by Camryn and Jaelyn Faulkner, displaying a powerful offensive effort that sealed the game in their favor.

Looking ahead, both teams at West Point will aim to build on their success as they prepare for future contests, with the boys set to face Fairview at home and the girls heading to Oneonta to continue their season.

This showcases not just individual talent, particularly from standout players like Chapman and the Faulkner sisters, but also highlights the strength of the teams as they grow and develop throughout the season. With strong coaching and community support, the future looks bright for the West Point Warriors and Lady Warriors.
