Authorities are advising the public to steer clear of the Walu Bay region following the discovery of a fuel leak from an oil tank located near Paradise Beverages, close to both Mobil and Total service stations.
Emergency responders from the National Fire Authority are actively on-site, diligently working to manage the leak and avert any potential hazards that may arise from the situation. In a proactive measure to ensure public safety, the police have established cordoned-off areas, restricting access to Walu Bay from both the Suva and Lami sides. This allows emergency crews to operate efficiently and without interruption.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Kasiano Vusonilawe, has urged the community to cooperate with officials and adhere to directives issued at the scene to ensure everyone’s safety.
Authorities are committed to providing ongoing updates as the situation develops, with information to be released once the leak is contained and the area is deemed safe for public access. This swift response underscores the dedication of local emergency services to protect community safety and promptly address hazardous incidents.
