Former LSU and Ole Miss quarterback Walker Howard has re-entered the transfer portal, marking his pursuit of a fresh opportunity as he approaches his final year of college eligibility. Reports from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer indicate that Howard entered the portal on Tuesday, and he has a do-not-contact tag, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
Initially recruited by LSU in 2022, Howard chose the Tigers over notable programs such as Notre Dame. He spent a year in Baton Rouge, participating in two games during the 2022 season. Following that stint, Howard transferred to Ole Miss, where he joined a competitive quarterback room that featured Jaxson Dart. His time at Ole Miss saw him play in two games each season, where he notably completed three of four passes against Mercer in 2023 and also saw action against teams like Furman and Wake Forest in 2024.
After his time at Ole Miss, Howard made another transition by signing with Louisiana, where he secured the starting position. However, his season was cut short due to a torn oblique muscle sustained during the season opener against Rice, keeping him sidelined until mid-October.
As he approaches this crucial final season, Howard aims to showcase his skills fully and capitalize on this opportunity in the transfer portal. With the right circumstances, this could be a pivotal point in his college football career.
