Walker Duehr is set to make his debut with the Winnipeg Jets against the San Jose Sharks, the same team he played for at the end of the 2024-25 season. The Jets, currently holding a record of 23 wins, 26 losses, and 9 overtime losses, are finishing a three-game road trip.
Following practice in Anaheim, Duehr expressed enthusiasm about facing his former team, emphasizing his goal to play a straightforward and aggressive game. The 28-year-old winger had modest success with the Sharks last season, netting two goals in eight games while also contributing nine points in 16 games with the San Jose Barracuda in the AHL. After productive discussions with the Jets during the off-season, he signed a one-year contract and has since become a vital player for the Manitoba Moose, achieving 12 goals and 26 points in 39 games this season.
“I think it’s been a pretty seamless transition. The organization has been great to me,” Duehr stated, praising the supportive environment with the Moose. He highlighted the strong chemistry among the team and the coaching staff as key factors in their successful performance.
Unfortunately for the Jets, Duehr’s opportunity comes in the wake of Vladislav Namestnikov’s week-to-week absence due to a lower body injury sustained during an accidental collision with Jets captain Adam Lowry. Consequently, Duehr will take over Namestnikov’s right wing position alongside linemates Jonathan Toews and Gustav Nyquist.
Jets head coach Scott Arniel noted the importance of planning for such changes, expressing confidence in Duehr’s abilities, having watched him during training camp and with the Moose. The team is eagerly anticipating this new addition to their lineup.
Additionally, Mark Scheifele, who leads the Jets in scoring with 70 points, is currently dealing with a minor issue following the overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks. While his status was uncertain during practice, Arniel remained hopeful that Scheifele would be ready to suit up for Sunday’s game.
With the puck dropping in the early afternoon at SAP Center, the Jets are looking to regroup and capitalize on the talents of both new and established players as they continue their push for a stronger season.
