Guests from a cruise ship received a heartfelt welcome at Vunidawamoli Village in Wailevu, Cakaudrove, marking a significant milestone for the local community. The twenty visitors were the first to experience the newly launched Nukuramase Eco Tours activity, designed to showcase the rich culture and natural beauty of the village.

During their visit, guests enjoyed a tour of the village, participated in traditional bilibili rides, and had the opportunity to purchase local souvenirs from the village hall. For decades, the Vunidawamoli community had aspired to share its traditions with outsiders but faced challenges in accessing resources and support. However, through collaborative efforts, this dream has finally come to fruition.

The initiative was made possible thanks to the Micro and Small Enterprise (MSE) support from the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, paired with ongoing assistance from the Na Vualiku Tourism Development Programme Office. The ministry’s 2025 grant significantly bolstered the community’s capacity to enhance its tourism offering, instill confidence among community members, and prepare to welcome visitors in line with international tourism standards.

Nukuramase Eco Tours is poised to host more cruise ship guests in the coming months, further boosting local tourism. Recently, the cruise ship MS Zaandam docked at Vanua Levu, indicating a growing interest in the region’s offerings.

This initiative not only promotes tourism but also fosters cultural exchange, creating an enriching experience for visitors and a sense of pride for the local community. The success of Nukuramase Eco Tours heralds a bright future for Wailevu Village as it embraces opportunities for sustainable tourism development.
