Vote Now: El-Balad Buffalo Wild Wings Girls Athlete of the Week Nominees

Voting is now open for the El-Balad Buffalo Wild Wings Girls Athlete of the Week, celebrating the achievements of talented female athletes from the week of November 2-8. This week, the poll showcases five exceptional nominees, including four volleyball players and a swimmer, all of whom have demonstrated outstanding performance in their respective sports.

The voting period runs until noon on Friday, November 14, and readers are encouraged to show their support for their favorite athlete during this time. The nominees, listed in alphabetical order by last name, are as follows:

Gabby DiVita from Grosse Pointe South made a significant impact on her team by recording 63 kills, averaging nine per set, and achieving a hitting percentage of .426. Along with her offensive prowess, she contributed defensively with 27 digs and four blocks during her team’s victories against Grosse Pointe North and Detroit Renaissance.

Brenna Mirovsky, an outside hitter from Oxford, played a key role in her team’s triumphs over Lake Orion and Clarkston, securing the district title for the first time in over two decades. In those two matches, she tallied 22 kills, 35 digs, three blocks, and seven serving assists.

Kayla Nwabueze from Bloomfield Hills was instrumental in leading her team to the regional semifinals, highlighted by an impressive performance against Bloomfield Hills Marian. Throughout the two matches, she achieved a remarkable total of 35 kills, alongside 13 digs and three aces, with standout numbers of 30 kills and 21 digs in her second match.

In the swimming category, Ashlyn Taylor of Gibraltar Carlson excelled at the two-day Downriver League Championship, clinching victories in two individual events. She set personal bests, finishing the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.21 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:18.79, which helped propel her team to overall success.

Eleanor Williams from Romeo led her unranked team through a thrilling upset against No. 7 Utica Eisenhower, showcasing her talent with a combined total of 35 kills, 21 digs, four blocks, and five aces across two matches.
