Buffalo, N.Y. – The NFL has announced a four-game suspension without pay for Bills defensive end Von Miller for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. This announcement was made on Tuesday, and Miller will be eligible to return following the team’s Week 8 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. His suspension means he will also miss upcoming games against the Houston Texans, the New York Jets, and the Tennessee Titans.
The suspension follows allegations that Miller assaulted his pregnant girlfriend during the Bills’ bye week in November 2023 while in suburban Dallas. The NFL has not provided further details regarding the specifics of the suspension.
Miller turned himself into the Glenn Heights (Texas) Police Department on November 30 after a warrant was issued for his arrest on a charge of third-degree felony assault of a pregnant woman. He was subsequently booked at the DeSoto Tri-City Jail and released after posting a $5,000 bond.
Miller has publicly denied the allegations, declaring them to be “100 percent false.” He mentioned in July 2024 that the case is closed without any charges being filed, although the NFL was conducting its own investigation at the time.
According to an affidavit obtained last year, the allegations suggest that Miller had held the woman by her neck for several seconds, pulled her hair, and attempted to push her as she tried to leave their shared apartment. The affidavit further revealed that the woman informed Miller of her intention to call the police, leading to his departure from the premises.
When police arrived, they noted “minor abrasions” on the woman’s left hand and bruising on her neck, consistent with applied pressure, as well as bruises on her abdomen and left bicep. These injuries were documented through photographs taken by the officers.
In December 2023, Miller addressed the allegations, emphasizing that he had not engaged with social media and asserting that the claims against him were false. He expressed concern for the seriousness of domestic violence issues globally and requested that the truth eventually come to light.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated in March that while he considered placing Miller on the exempt list, it was not deemed appropriate at that time based on the available information. The exempt list would prevent players from counting against the active roster for reasons determined by the commissioner.
Miller restructured his contract this offseason to save the Bills $8.645 million in cap space. He originally signed a six-year deal with the team in 2022. Previously, he served a six-game suspension in 2013 for performance-enhancing drugs.
At 35 years old, Miller plays a rotational role on the Bills’ defensive line and has logged three sacks this season, managing one sack in each of the first three games. He played nine snaps during the Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
In response to Miller’s suspension, the Bills have signed defensive tackle Zion Logue from the practice squad of the Atlanta Falcons.
