Foodynamics has announced a voluntary recall of certain lots of freeze-dried pet treats due to potential Salmonella contamination, which poses a risk to both pets and humans. The treats affected come from various brands including Raw Dog Barkery, BellePepper Cats, Kanu Pets, and What’s In the Bowl, and were distributed to retailers in Wisconsin, New York, and Florida.
The recall was prompted by FDA testing that uncovered Salmonella in the products. Initial communications from the company mistakenly identified three packages as Raw Dog Barkery, which have now been corrected to reflect their actual branding under What’s In the Bowl. Foodynamics has effectively traced the distribution of all affected products, successfully contacting retailers and customers involved.
The recalled items include packages of Whole Chicken Hearts under the Raw Dog Barkery and What’s In the Bowl labels, as well as Freeze Dried Chicken Heart Slices from BellePepper Cats and Kanu Pets. Specific lot numbers and “Use By” dates for these products have been provided to help consumers identify if they possess the recalled items.
Salmonella can lead to serious health issues in both pets and humans, with symptoms ranging from nausea to more severe ailments. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to return them to the store for a full refund and to avoid feeding them to their pets. Moreover, it’s recommended that customers wash their hands thoroughly after handling any potentially contaminated items.
Fortunately, as of this announcement, there have been no reported health issues related to the recalled products. Foodynamics has stated they are committed to working with the FDA in investigating the source of the contamination and has halted the production and distribution of the affected treats.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough food safety practices, particularly in pet food production, which not only affects animal wellbeing but also has potential repercussions for human health. As the company moves forward, it aims to restore consumer confidence through transparency and rigorous safety measures.
