Wellsville’s volleyball team secured a hard-fought victory against United, winning 25-23, 30-28, 25-20 in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference action on Tuesday.
Presley Stokes was a standout for the Tigers (10-3, 5-2 in the EOAC), contributing 19 kills, three aces, 10 assists, and nine digs. Myleigh Jackson added 12 digs and two assists, while Aleena Owens recorded two aces and six digs. Maddie Drysdale played a key role with two blocks, and Olivia Edison contributed with two aces. The Tigers are currently two matches behind Columbiana in the EOAC standings and have already faced the Clippers twice.
United’s record now stands at 7-9 and 6-3 in the EOAC, with a match against Columbiana scheduled for Thursday. For the Golden Eagles, Marin Stryffeler had eight digs and six points, Maelee Smith made nine kills, and Aurianna Cusick contributed five aces.
Wellsville is set to visit Union Local today, where the Jets are ranked sixth in the Div. V state volleyball coaches poll.
In another match, Crestview, ranked second in Div. V, quickly defeated Brookfield 25-4, 25-11, 25-7. The Rebels remain undefeated at 14-0 and are 10-0 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Division, leading the conference by one match over Garfield. They have achieved 38 consecutive regular-season victories.
Lainy Auer led the Rebels with 14 kills and 10 assists, while University of Pittsburgh recruit Abbey Emch added 13 kills, 11 aces, and seven digs. Sophia Stewart also put in a solid performance with 17 assists and eight digs. Crestview’s junior varsity team won their match 25-7, 25-2, improving their record to 14-0.
The Rebels will be back in action today against Austintown Fitch, with the match being broadcast live on MyYTV at 7 p.m.
Columbiana maintained its unbeaten record in the EOAC with a 25-12, 25-9, 25-11 victory over Valley Christian. The Clippers, now 14-1 and 8-0 in the league, will host United on Thursday. Ellie Jackson led the Clippers with four kills, six aces, and 15 assists.
Southern Local dominated East Palestine, winning 25-16, 25-17, 25-23 in EOAC play. The Indians improved to 6-8 and will face Lisbon on Thursday. Gianna Pecorelli and Kennedy Lewis contributed significantly, along with Cheyenne Bennett, who had 14 assists.
Lisbon won against Leetonia 25-9, 25-11, 25-21, raising their record to 9-4 and 5-3 in the EOAC. Cheyenne Nez and Stefanee Stacey both had strong performances for the Blue Devils.
In other matches, Salem overcame Newton Falls 25-23, 35-33, 25-22. The Crestview freshman team also won against Howland, while the Salem junior varsity team defeated Marlington 25-8, 25-13.
