Volleyball Showdown: Wellsville Triumphs While Crestview Remains Undefeated!

Wellsville’s volleyball team secured a hard-fought victory against United, winning 25-23, 30-28, and 25-20 in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play on Tuesday.

Presley Stokes led the Tigers with 19 kills, three aces, 10 assists, and nine digs. Myleigh Jackson contributed with 12 digs and two assists, while Aleena Owens added two aces and six digs. Maddie Drysdale recorded two blocks, and Olivia Edison contributed two aces. The Tigers now have a record of 10-3, with a 5-2 mark in the EOAC, trailing Columbiana by two matches.

United fell to 7-9 overall and 6-3 in the EOAC, with their next match against Columbiana on Thursday. Marin Stryffeler recorded eight digs and six points for the Golden Eagles, while Maelee Smith added nine kills and Aurianna Cusick contributed five aces.

Wellsville will face Union Local today, who is currently ranked sixth in the Division V state volleyball coaches poll.

In another match, Crestview, ranked second in Division V, dominated Brookfield with a score of 25-4, 25-11, and 25-7. The Rebels improved to 14-0 and 10-0 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Division, leading the conference by one match. Lainy Auer and Abbey Emch were standout players, with Auer achieving 14 kills and 10 assists, while Emch had 13 kills, 11 aces, and seven digs.

Crestview’s junior varsity team also won decisively with a score of 25-7, 25-2. The Rebels will be back on the court today against Austintown Fitch, a match that will be broadcast live on MyYTV at 7 p.m.

Columbiana maintained its perfect record in the EOAC with a 25-12, 25-9, and 25-11 victory over Valley Christian. With this win, the Clippers improved to 14-1 and 8-0 in the league, and they will host United on Thursday. Ellie Jackson led the Clippers with four kills, six aces, 15 assists, and 11 points, while Kelsey Cameron contributed 11 kills.

Southern Local achieved a win against East Palestine with scores of 25-16, 25-17, and 25-23, improving to 6-8 for the season. Gianna Pecorelli and Kennedy Lewis stood out, while East Palestine’s Elle Berger led her team with seven kills and 17 digs.

Lisbon defeated Leetonia 25-9, 25-11, and 25-21, advancing to a record of 9-4 overall and 5-3 in the EOAC. Cheyenne Nez was a key player for the Blue Devils with seven kills, and Lisbon’s freshman team won their match as well.

In other action, Salem triumphed over Newton Falls, winning 25-23, 35-33, and 25-22. The Crestview freshman team beat Howland, and the Salem junior varsity squad defeated Marlington decisively.
