Vodafone Sugar Festival: A 20-Year-Old's Bold Call for Family Time and Change

Vodafone Sugar Festival: Young Contestant Highlights Parenting and Youth Empowerment

At the recent Vodafone Sugar Festival, contestant Michelle Lambert delivered a heartfelt message emphasizing the significance of families spending quality time together. The 20-year-old, who is sponsored by Lei Entertainers and originates from Navaka, Noco, shared her concern about parental awareness regarding their children’s activities. “I believe if you look at it, most parents are not sure what their children do nowadays,” Lambert noted, addressing behaviors like smoking that some parents might overlook.

With family roots in Kulukulu Village, Lambert is one of five contestants vying for the festival’s queen title. She expressed excitement about her participation, stating, “It’s kind of exciting and a new thing for me. I would say it’s a real journey and I’m happy to be here.” Lambert dedicated a week to prepare her traditional Fijian attire but chose to keep the details of her outfit a secret.

The Vodafone Sugar Festival is more than a cultural celebration; it is a platform for young women to empower themselves and address social issues. Lambert pointed out, “It is a place where people can showcase and use their talents, and I believe younger women have the ability and confidence to be strong.” This year’s festival theme resonates among participants, including Vani Dianilawe Tobakarakarawa, who was crowned queen of the Vodafone Sugar Festival 2024. Tobakarakarawa has also highlighted the importance of youth engagement in tackling social challenges such as drug use.

The Vodafone Sugar Festival serves as a cornerstone of community unity, providing an environment where young women can express themselves and make a meaningful impact. Through their participation, contestants like Lambert and Tobakarakarawa are not only representing their culture but also championing positive social change. Their efforts reflect the emergence of a new generation of leaders dedicated to fostering hope and resilience within their communities. This celebration of youth and cultural pride is a testament to the potential of the young leaders shaping the future.
