Vodafone ATH is taking significant action in the fight against HIV and AIDS by donating $32,000 to a nationwide awareness and training initiative. The program focuses on bolstering community-level education and prevention efforts throughout the country.
The funds will support a project spearheaded by Australian Pacific Management Training (APMT), a reputable Australian institution that will train representatives from all 14 provinces. These newly trained facilitators are expected to return to their local communities to raise awareness about HIV, advocate for prevention strategies, and reduce the stigma surrounding the virus.
Assistant Minister for Health, Penioni Ravunawa, underscored the dire need for this initiative, noting a troubling increase in HIV cases among the iTaukei population. He pointed out that community-based education is vital in controlling the spread of the virus, particularly in rural and village areas where access to reliable information is limited.
Steve Chand, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission, expressed confidence in APMT’s capabilities and qualifications to effectively implement the program.
