Dan Vladar’s tenure with the Calgary Flames has officially concluded as he embarks on a new chapter with the Philadelphia Flyers. After discussions indicated that the 27-year-old goalie was looking for a more prominent role, he has signed a two-year contract with the Flyers worth an average annual value of $3.35 million.
The Philadelphia Flyers confirmed the deal through their official account, marking a significant move in their roster. Vladar, originally acquired by the Flames from the Boston Bruins before the 2021-22 season in exchange for a third-round pick, served as the backup for Calgary for four seasons. During his time with the Flames, he participated in 100 games, accumulating a 2.97 goals against average (GAA) and an .895 save percentage (SV%).
In the just-concluded season, Vladar notably appeared in a career-high 30 games, posting a GAA of 2.80 and a .898 SV% with a record of 12-11-6. Despite his reliable performance, his aspirations for a starting position were stymied by the emergence of rookie Dustin Wolf, who had an outstanding season.
With the Flyers, Vladar is poised to have a greater opportunity to establish himself as a starter, given that the current goaltending options are limited to Ivan Fedotov and Samuel Ersson. This acquisition could signify the Flyers’ strategy to strengthen their goaltending position, paving the way for a fresh start for Vladar in Philadelphia.
This move not only opens up new possibilities for Vladar but also reflects a proactive approach from the Flyers to enhance their squad as they prepare for the upcoming season. There is a sense of optimism that with the right support and opportunity, Vladar can thrive in his new environment.
