Viva Aerobus is set to enhance air connectivity to Tampico by introducing a new flight route from the southern region of Tamaulipas to Villahermosa, the capital of Tabasco. This development marks a significant recovery of a previously lost connection to the southeast of Mexico, facilitating greater travel options for both business and leisure.

With the introduction of this route, Viva Aerobus is expanding its national travel offerings, recognizing the tourism and business synergies between the two cities, largely driven by their shared interests in the oil industry and productive activities. The new service will complement existing flights that the airline operates from Tampico to Monterrey, Mexico City, and Cancun, further solidifying its presence in the region.

Historically, commercial flights along this route have encountered challenges; Aero California offered services over two decades ago but eventually ceased operations due to bankruptcy. More recently, Aerus attempted a limited service with small aircraft but failed to maintain consistent operations.

The addition of this route will mark Viva’s fourth destination from Tampico, which also connects to key terminals in Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo, and Matamoros. Notably, the Tampico airport, managed by Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA), has recently announced its first national flight of the year, along with a new international route to Dallas-Fort Worth by American Airlines. The airport has seen a 7.8% annual increase in foreign tourism, demonstrating the growing demand for travel in the area.

On Wednesday, airline executives, alongside state and municipal authorities, will unveil further details about the flight, including schedules, frequency, and pricing, as they aim to mobilize a greater number of passengers between the two regions. This development not only promotes regional connectivity but also offers a hopeful outlook for local tourism and business prospects.
