Jesoni Vitusagavulu has officially taken on the role of Fiji’s first resident ambassador to Israel, having presented his credentials to Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Tuesday. The announcement of Mr. Vitusagavulu’s appointment, a distinguished businessman and experienced diplomat, was made just last month.

Previously serving as Fiji’s ambassador to the United States, Mr. Vitusagavulu is well-equipped with a varied professional background that he brings to his new position. During his discussions with President Herzog, they addressed broader regional and international security concerns, particularly focusing on the proposed International Stabilization Force. This multinational initiative aims to operate within the Gaza Strip, ensuring the protection of civilians while facilitating humanitarian aid.

Fiji’s potential involvement in this force reflects its longstanding commitment to international peacekeeping efforts. The nation has a rich history of contributing to United Nations missions, including the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, the Multinational Force and Observers, and the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force. As Mr. Vitusagavulu steps into his role, his leadership may not only enhance Fiji’s diplomatic relations with Israel but also strengthen its participation in global peacekeeping endeavors.
