TULSA, Okla. — A suspect has been apprehended following a violent attack on a woman early Thursday morning in Tulsa. According to police reports, the victim was stabbed in the face and head while she was on a trail. Emergency services responded to a call at around 6:45 a.m., and the victim was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
Tulsa Police Captain Richard Meulenberg described the suspect’s erratic behavior during the attack. He indicated that the assailant, identified as Jesse James Brown, exhibited signs of mental distress, making alarming statements like “you’re going to meet with God.” The police had previously identified Brown and had issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of assault with a deadly weapon after he fled the scene.
Brown was located and arrested later that day, around 6:04 p.m., near 500 W. 68th Street. NewsChannel 8 captured exclusive footage of the arrest, which followed a brief pursuit. Brown has a history of criminal activity, including a dismissed charge of domestic assault and battery in 2023 due to participation in a civil mental health diversion program, as well as a past conviction for public intoxication in 2016.
With the recent attack prompting concern, police advise residents that while such incidents are rare, it’s wise to travel in groups, remain vigilant, keep a cell phone on hand, and consider having self-defense tools if they feel comfortable doing so.
This incident highlights the importance of community awareness and personal safety precautions in public spaces. While unfortunate, the timely response of law enforcement and health services showcases the ongoing commitment to public safety in Tulsa.
