Vince Gilligan, the mastermind behind “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul,” has ventured into the sci-fi realm with his new series “Pluribus,” bringing along a familiar crew of over 150 cast and crew members from his previous work. Notable among them is Rhea Seehorn, who takes on the role of Carol Sturka, a romantasy author navigating the complexities of a new world.
In the latest episode of “Pluribus,” titled “Got Milk,” Carol finds herself isolated after seemingly being left behind by the viral hivemind known as ‘Others,’ which has enveloped nearly all of humanity. To provide some comfort, the Others leave a recorded message for Carol, expressing their unchanged feelings while requesting some time apart. Fans of Gilligan’s previous shows quickly recognized the voice on the message as that of Patrick Fabian, who played the charismatic attorney Howard G. Hamlin in “Better Call Saul.”
The surprise cameo was not only a treat for eager fans but also for Seehorn herself, who was kept in the dark about Fabian’s involvement. The production team aimed to capture her genuine reaction to hearing his voice, which led to a delightful moment when she finally realized it was Patrick on the recording. “They were hoping to get some kind of blooper take from me,” Seehorn recalled in an interview, explaining that she managed to maintain her composure during the long take. After the scene wrapped, her excitement burst forth as she exclaimed, “That’s Patrick! You got Patrick!” She later learned that the team had orchestrated the secrecy purely for her amusement.
Gilligan’s transition to sci-fi appears to be a seamless blend of familiar faces and fresh narratives, suggesting an exciting journey ahead for fans of his previous works. With “Pluribus,” he continues to push boundaries while reuniting beloved talent from his acclaimed series. This engaging mix only heightens the anticipation surrounding the show, promising rich storytelling and intriguing character dynamics.
