Matty Cash is set to miss Aston Villa’s upcoming two matches due to a knee injury. The right-back, 28, underwent scans after experiencing discomfort during Villa’s recent 1-1 draw against Bournemouth. Fortunately, the results revealed no major issues apart from inflammation in the knee.

Consequently, Cash is expected to be unavailable for the FA Cup clash against Newcastle United on February 14, in addition to missing the league match against Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday evening. In his absence, midfielder Lamare Bogarde is anticipated to fill in at right-back, with manager Unai Emery facing limited options. The only other alternative, Andres Garcia, is sidelined due to a hamstring injury.

Bogarde has experience in this role, having previously played at full-back during Villa’s 4-1 defeat to Arsenal in December when Cash was suspended. The current recovery timeline suggests that Cash could return in time for the match against Leeds United at Villa Park on February 21.

This season, Cash has consistently been one of the standout right-backs in the Premier League, making 24 league appearances, scoring three goals, and providing two assists. His impressive performance led to a contract renewal in October, extending his deal with the club until June 2029. Fans will undoubtedly be eager for his swift return to the squad, given his significant contributions on the pitch.
