Minnesota Vikings left tackle Christian Darrisaw was assisted off the field during the team’s “Thursday Night Football” matchup against the Los Angeles Rams and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
The incident occurred with 35 seconds left in the first half when the Vikings opted for a run play from their own 3-yard line instead of taking a knee. During the play, running back Aaron Jones was tackled by Rams rookie safety Jaylen McCollough, which resulted in Darrisaw sustaining a knee injury when his left leg was rolled upon.
Following the play, Darrisaw collapsed to the ground and immediately clutched his left knee. Minnesota’s medical team attended to him on the field before helping him walk to the locker room. Reports indicated that Darrisaw struggled to put weight on his left leg as he exited.
The Vikings determined that Darrisaw would not return for the game due to the knee injury and announced on Friday that he would require surgery that would end his season.
In a further update, head coach Kevin O’Connell acknowledged the severity of the injury after the game. He indicated that he had hoped for better news regarding Darrisaw’s condition but stated, “Unfortunately, that is not the case. He did sustain a significant knee injury to his left knee and will require season-ending surgery. He will go on injured reserve today.”
This development adds to the ongoing injury updates concerning the Vikings, impacting their roster and future schedule.
