The Minnesota Vikings have officially parted ways with general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, as confirmed by the organization on Friday. Adofo-Mensah, who joined the Vikings in 2022 alongside head coach Kevin O’Connell, had recently been awarded a contract extension less than a year prior to his dismissal.

In a statement, team owners Mark and Zygi Wilf expressed that after careful consideration following their annual end-of-season meetings, the organization believes it is in the best interest of the franchise to pursue new leadership for their football operations. They highlighted their gratitude for Adofo-Mensah’s contributions over the past four years while wishing him well for the future.

His termination comes soon after the conclusion of the Vikings’ regular season and just a few months ahead of the NFL Draft. Until a new general manager is appointed, Executive Vice President of Football Operations Rob Brzezinski will oversee the team’s operations. The Wilfs stated their commitment to building a championship-contending team and their eagerness to bring success to their dedicated fans.

During his tenure, Adofo-Mensah successfully acquired several impactful free agents, particularly on defense, including linebackers Blake Cashman and Andrew Van Ginkel, as well as pass rusher Jonathan Greenard. However, his draft performances were less successful, with concerns surrounding his first-round picks. Notably, his initial selection, safety Lewis Cine (No. 32 overall in 2022), is no longer part of the league, while only wide receiver Jordan Addison has emerged as a bright spot from his drafting efforts.

Despite finding some solid contributors in later rounds, such as wide receiver Jalen Nailor and kicker Will Reichard, Adofo-Mensah’s overall drafting success drew criticism. A pivotal decision that may have contributed to his firing was choosing to focus on quarterback J.J. McCarthy rather than re-signing Sam Darnold. This decision proved costly, as Darnold opted for a contract with the Seattle Seahawks, a team offering him a more viable path to a starting role, while he is set to compete in Super Bowl LX against the New England Patriots on February 8.

As the Vikings look toward the future, the organization remains focused on building a team that can make a serious push for championships, ensuring that they maintain a strong connection with their fanbase.
