Thalapathy Vijay’s much-anticipated film, Jana Nayagan, is facing significant challenges as it prepares for a crucial release that could mark the star’s transition into politics. Following the filmmakers’ pursuit of legal recourse to secure a certification from the Censor Board, the Madras High Court has reserved its ruling, expected on January 9. This announcement comes with the disappointing news that all pre-10 am screenings have been effectively canceled.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that a new committee from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) will conduct a fresh review of Jana Nayagan. This delay creates a significant hurdle for the film’s release, as the certification of the Tamil version is a prerequisite for the dubbed versions in languages such as Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
In light of these developments, the ‘Book Tickets’ option for Jana Nayagan has been removed from the popular ticketing platform BookMyShow in several cities. The CBFC had previously indicated that the film would require revisions, including cuts and muted dialogues, after not receiving its certification despite a submission over a month ago. Originally scheduled for a January 6 hearing, the case was postponed, heightening tensions in the lead-up to the film’s release.
Despite the hurdles, the enthusiasm among Vijay’s fans remains unwavering. Advance bookings have surged to unprecedented levels, particularly in Karnataka, where first-day-first-show screenings have sold out in multiple single-screen cinemas. Kerala is also witnessing strong early ticket sales, demonstrating the robust demand for the film. International advance sales have reportedly exceeded Rs 25 crore.
Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, features an impressive cast that includes Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain. The fervor surrounding the film suggests that, regardless of the current legal setbacks, Vijay’s dedicated fan base is eager to celebrate his new cinematic venture.
