Vick’s Comeback: Coaching Hoops at Norfolk State University!

Michael Vick is set to take on a new challenge as he has accepted the position of head coach at Norfolk State University, marking his return to football. The 44-year-old former NFL star made the announcement via his Facebook page, expressing excitement about returning to his home region where he grew up in Newport News.

Vick, who gained prominence as a standout quarterback at Virginia Tech and went on to become a four-time Pro Bowler during his 13 seasons in the NFL, played for teams such as the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, and Pittsburgh Steelers. He is recognized for revolutionizing the quarterback position by showcasing the ability to excel as both a passer and a runner.

His career, however, faced significant challenges, including a prison sentence for his involvement in a dogfighting operation. Following his release in 2009, Vick made a remarkable comeback, earning the AP Comeback Player of the Year award in 2010 while with the Eagles. After retiring from professional football in 2017, he has dedicated himself to advocating against animal cruelty and has worked as an analyst for Fox Sports.

Norfolk State recently parted ways with head coach Dawson Odums after a disappointing 4-8 season. The university, which competes in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, has a limited football playoff history, with just one appearance in the FCS playoffs back in 2011.

Vick’s hiring has generated interest, particularly as he had also been in discussions with Sacramento State regarding their head coaching vacancy.

This opportunity allows Vick to bring his experience and insight back to the game, potentially inspiring the next generation of athletes. His journey reflects resilience and a commitment to making a positive impact in the community, and many hope he can lead Norfolk State to new heights on the football field.
