Verstappen Shines in Nordschleife GT3 Debut, Named Driver of the Day

Max Verstappen recently received high accolades after an impressive performance alongside team-mate Chris Lulham at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Competing in the ninth round of the NLS Series, a GT racing series held exclusively at the Nordschleife, Verstappen showcased his skill by leading the team to victory in the #31 Emil Frey Racing Ferrari 296 GT3. His extraordinary driving earned him the ‘Fahrer des Tages’ (Driver of the Day) award, an honor determined by event organizers and stadium announcers.

This race marked Verstappen’s debut in the competitive GT series, yet he appeared quite comfortable in the different setup. The four-time world champion exhibited his prowess by securing third place on the grid and swiftly taking the lead at the race’s outset, overtaking the polesitter at the first corner during the four-hour competition. Verstappen maintained dominance on the track for the initial two hours, establishing a 62-second lead before handing over to Lulham, who skillfully secured the win despite several slow zones reducing their advantage to a 20-second lead at the finish line.

The ‘Fahrer des Tages’ award, introduced earlier this year, acknowledges exceptional drivers, and Verstappen’s remarkable performance on the iconic German circuit made him a standout choice for the accolade. This successful GT3 debut marks an important milestone for Verstappen, bringing him closer to realizing his aspiration of competing in the prestigious Nürburgring 24 Hours race. This event remains a focal target in his illustrious racing career, underscoring his commitment to continuous growth and excellence in motorsport.
