Verizon customers, particularly in Michigan, are currently facing significant service disruptions, as reported by numerous users across platforms like Downdetector. Over a recent half-hour period, the complaints surged, with 36 posts detailing issues such as inability to make calls or access mobile data. Users of Apple iPhones on Verizon, as well as its subsidiaries Visible and Straight Talk, have specifically reported the SOS icon appearing on their status bars, indicating they are disconnected from their wireless provider.
Many comments have surfaced from frustrated users stating that their phones are stuck on SOS and their home internet services are also down. One user expressed concern that connectivity problems are impacting their ability to care for elderly patients, illustrating the personal struggles behind the service outage.
The situation escalated quickly for Visible, which saw complaints rise dramatically—from just 2 reported issues at 11:55 PM ET to 285 by 12:25 AM ET. A substantial 70% of complaints were centered around users having no signal, 19% reported total outages, and 10% noted issues related to their mobile devices. In another spike, Straight Talk reported 378 complaints on Downdetector around 12:20 AM, a notable increase from just one complaint at 11:50 PM.
As of early Friday morning on the East Coast, the total number of complaints for Verizon has ballooned to around 7,360. About half of these complaints pertained to issues with mobile devices, while 36% reported signal loss and 14% had troubles with 5G home internet connectivity.
