Colleen Hoover’s film adaptation of her bestselling novel “Verity,” which features Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett, has encountered a significant delay. The release date has been rescheduled from May 15, 2026, to October 2, 2026, moving the premiere nearly five months later than originally planned.
“Verity” is based on Hoover’s psychological thriller published in 2018, which gained immense popularity, selling over 3 million copies. The narrative focuses on Lowen Ashleigh, portrayed by Johnson, who is recruited by Jeremy Crawford (Hartnett) to finish a book series written by his wife, Verity Crawford (Hathaway), after she becomes incapacitated. As Lowen delves into Verity’s unfinished manuscript, she uncovers disturbing truths about the family.
In April, Hathaway had shared an enthusiastic message about concluding production and had previously hinted at the film’s anticipated release. Hoover expressed her gratitude towards Hathaway for the collaboration, signaling her excitement about the film’s progress.
The delay of “Verity” is part of a trend as more of Hoover’s books are being adapted for the screen. Alongside “Verity,” “It Ends With Us,” featuring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, is set for release in 2024, while “Regretting You,” starring Allison Williams and Dave Franco, will premiere on October 24, 2025. Additionally, “Reminders of Him,” featuring Maika Monroe, is slated for February 13, 2026.
