Divine Farm is taking significant steps to address the pork shortage in Fiji while bolstering the nation’s food security through expansive agricultural initiatives. Situated in Verata, Tailevu, the farm, managed by Divine Fijian Home Care, has diversified its operations to include a substantial dalo production effort, growing approximately 48,000 dalo plants on its 56-acre commercial lease.
Emosi Koroitamana, the director of the farm, underscores the significance of sustainability and quality in their farming practices. Currently, Divine Farm employs 12 staff members, comprising three permanent positions and nine project-based roles. The farm cultivates a variety of dalo types, including Bavia, Uro ni Vonu, Jabeni, and Belo. Koroitamana is committed to delivering flavorful produce, pointing to the crucial role of high-quality manure and fertilizers in attaining excellent results.
In line with Divine Farm’s ambitious objectives, Sitiveni Kalou, a representative from DFHC Fiji, articulates their long-term vision for expanding agricultural production, improving soil health, and boosting local employment. He highlights the farm’s dedication to community enhancement, noting that over 20 community projects have been supported on Koroitamana’s home island in the past year alone.
This initiative is part of a growing movement within Fiji’s agricultural sector, reflecting strategies designed to enhance market accessibility and empower local farmers. Recent developments, such as the creation of processing facilities and cold storage options in Nadi, are set to improve the agricultural landscape by providing vital resources for farmers who face geographical and infrastructural barriers.
