Vanna White initially expressed concerns about Ryan Seacrest joining “Wheel of Fortune” as the new host. In an interview on CBS Sunday Morning, White, 67, discussed her evolving relationship with Seacrest, 49, following the taping of her first episodes without the longtime host, Pat Sajak, who retired after 41 seasons.
“I’ve known Ryan for probably 20 years,” White shared. “But in recent months, we’ve traveled together for the show, allowing us to get to know each other better.” She noted that their chemistry seems to be developing positively.
When asked about her initial nervousness regarding their dynamics, White admitted, “I had no idea what to expect after working with one person for so long. I was very scared, but he’s doing a great job.”
White has been a part of “Wheel of Fortune” since 1982. Following Sajak’s retirement announcement, there were rumors suggesting tension between White and Seacrest. A source was quoted as saying that White didn’t connect with Seacrest in the same way she did with Sajak. However, a representative close to Seacrest denied these claims, stating that the two had enjoyable interactions on set.
To dispel the rumors, White shared a photo of herself dining with Seacrest, captioning it, “Friends on and off camera.” Seacrest began filming in July and appeared to be adapting well to his new role, expressing his admiration for the “incredible” franchise and its significance to viewers.
White revealed that she considered retiring after Sajak’s departure but ultimately chose to extend her contract with the show through the 2025-2026 season. Reflecting on losing her longtime partner, she stated that it felt bittersweet, comparing it to finishing a good book that must come to an end.
The 42nd season of “Wheel of Fortune” is set to premiere on September 9.
