Vanderbilt’s winning streak has come to an end after a close 27-24 defeat to Texas at FirstBank Stadium. Despite the loss, Vanderbilt (5-3, 2-2 in SEC) still has a chance to play in a bowl game, though hopes for a Playoff spot may have been dashed.

The Commodores started strong, taking an early lead with an 18-yard touchdown run from quarterback Diego Pavia in the first quarter. Texas responded with three consecutive touchdowns, but a 54-yard field goal from Brock Taylor at the end of the first half narrowed the score to 21-10.

In the third quarter, Vanderbilt closed the gap to 24-17 on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Pavia to Junior Sherrill. However, an interception by Pavia later led to a field goal for Texas, extending their lead. Pavia managed one final scoring pass to Eli Stowers, but Texas recovered an onside kick to secure the win.

Quinn Ewers led Texas with 288 yards passing, alongside three touchdowns and two interceptions. Pavia finished 16-of-29 for 143 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Key moments during the game included a late fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Pavia that reduced Texas’ lead to 27-24. Before that, Texas had added a 23-yard field goal after capitalizing on Pavia’s earlier interception.

Vanderbilt’s defense made crucial plays, including a pick of Ewers on Texas’ first possession, but ultimately, the Commodores fell short.

Looking ahead, Vanderbilt will host their remaining games with the hope of qualifying for a bowl, while Texas continues its successful season in pursuit of higher aspirations.
