HBO Max has released a new adaptation of the classic horror film “Salem’s Lot,” focusing on the tale of Ben Mears, who relocates to a small town in Maine that is overrun by vampires. The remake debuted on Thursday, October 3, and has been rated R due to its violent content and language.

The story centers around Ben Mears, a writer who returns to his hometown with the intention of writing about the infamous Marsten House, a supposedly haunted mansion overlooking the town. However, he soon discovers that the property’s owner is a vampire who is transforming the townspeople into an army of the undead.

The production of the new “Salem’s Lot” largely took place in Massachusetts, which contributes to its authentic New England atmosphere. Filming locations included:

– Boston, where principal photography commenced in September 2021.
– Ipswich, particularly in the downtown area.
– Sterling
– Clinton
– Princeton, where the Princeton Public Library served as a filming site for three days.
– Stow, featuring a house on Crescent Street.

Stephen King wrote “Salem’s Lot” in 1975, making it his second novel after the renowned “Carrie.”

For those interested in the original 1979 version of “Salem’s Lot,” it is available for rent on Prime Video and Apple TV, and can also be streamed on HBO Max with a subscription.
