A new adaptation of the classic horror film “Salem’s Lot” has arrived on HBO Max, revisiting the chilling tale of Ben Mears, who relocates to a small town in Maine plagued by vampires. This remake became available for streaming on Thursday, October 3, and carries an R rating for scenes of graphic violence and strong language.
The story centers around Mears, a writer who returns to his childhood town to work on a novel. However, he quickly discovers that the Marsten House, a purportedly haunted property he intends to write about, is owned by a vampire intent on creating an army of the undead from the townsfolk.
Significantly, much of the film was shot in Massachusetts, lending an authentic New England ambiance to the production. Notable filming locations include Boston, where principal photography started in September 2021, as well as the downtown areas of Ipswich, Sterling, Clinton, and Princeton, where the public library served as a set for three days.
Stephen King penned the original “Salem’s Lot” in 1975, marking it as his second novel following the success of “Carrie.” For those interested in the original 1979 version of “Salem’s Lot,” it can be rented on Prime Video and Apple TV, and is also available for subscribers on HBO Max.
