The Golden State Valkyries have made key roster moves by re-signing Chloe Bibby and Kaitlyn Chen, both of whom joined the team during the preseason. This decision comes as several Valkyries players are set to participate in the upcoming EuroBasket tournament starting June 18. While the team did not disclose the specific contract lengths for Bibby and Chen, both players will be available for their game against the Dallas Wings on June 17, with Bibby donning number 55 and Chen wearing number 2.
Chloe Bibby, who is part of the Australian national team, showcased her skills in the preseason by averaging 5.0 points and 1.5 rebounds over two games, with a field goal percentage of 37.5. Kaitlyn Chen, a UConn national champion and the Valkyries’ 30th overall pick in this year’s draft, contributed with two points, three rebounds, and one assist in 13 minutes of play during the preseason.
However, this re-signing raises questions regarding Chen’s availability for the 3XBA event, where she was set to participate in Spokane Hoop Fest starting June 28. The FIBA 3XBA league is the only professional 3×3 competition in the U.S., allowing players a platform to compete outside of the WNBA.
Golden State had originally signed Bibby in February 2025, when she was impressively averaging 18 points per game while shooting 47% from the three-point line for Uni Girona CB in EuroCup play. Besides her international experience, Bibby has also played at the collegiate level with notable teams such as Mississippi State and Maryland.
The Valkyries currently face roster challenges due to the absence of several players participating in EuroBasket. Notably, Julia Vanloo and Kayra Linskens will represent Belgium, with Linskens already announcing her decision not to return post-tournament. Janelle Salaun will play for France, and Cecilia Zandalasini will represent Italy, while Temi Fagbenie’s participation remains uncertain.
This strategic move by the Valkyries can be seen as a proactive approach to strengthen their lineup during a crucial time, showcasing their commitment to adapting and improving as they navigate through the challenges posed by the EuroBasket commitment of their players.
