Today marks World Mental Health Day, a globally recognized occasion focused on raising awareness about essential mental health issues and motivating action for lasting change. In light of this, UTSA’s leadership, including President Taylor Eighmy, Provost Heather Shipley, Chief Enterprise Development Officer Veronica Salazar, Faculty Senate Chair Alex Godet, and Staff Senate Chair Justin Marmolejo, sent a message to all faculty and staff reinforcing their commitment to fostering a supportive environment for well-being within the campus community.
While today holds significant meaning, the leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining this commitment every day. They encourage everyone to regularly check in with friends, colleagues, and peers, offering support and reminding them they are not alone.
UTSA invites everyone to take advantage of the free resources available and participate in well-being initiatives on campus. Recently, Academic Affairs initiated a well-being task force aimed at enhancing and expanding well-being programs. Key resources include:
The Deer Oaks Employee Assistance Program, which offers confidential counseling and support services for faculty and staff. Their toll-free hotline operates 24/7 at (888) 993-7650.
Healthy Minds at Work, a free online seminar available on-demand starting today, provides strategies for creating supportive workplaces that encourage employee engagement and resilience.
The iConnectYou app, accessible for 24-hour professional support through call, video, or text.
The 988 Lifeline, which offers free and confidential support 24/7 for individuals in distress, along with resources for prevention and crisis management.
The message concludes with appreciation for the contributions of all members of the Roadrunner family, highlighting the collective effort to make UTSA a nurturing environment for work, learning, and discovery.
