A driver was hospitalized with minor injuries after their vehicle collided with a utility pole in Westbrook on Monday afternoon. The incident briefly interrupted power supply to the north side of the river, affecting several major intersections.

According to Westbrook Fire Chief Steve Sloan, the crash involved only one vehicle and took place shortly before 3 p.m. on Brown Street. The driver was taken to the hospital as a safety measure, though their injuries were reported as minor.

The accident caused traffic lights from Cumberland Street to Bridge Street to go out, and police directed traffic in the affected areas, advising drivers to treat the intersections as four-way stops until power was restored.

Crews from Central Maine Power quickly responded to the situation and were able to restore power by approximately 5:15 p.m., with no ongoing outages reported in Westbrook thereafter.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash and have not disclosed whether the driver might face any charges. This story remains in development and will be updated as more details come to light.

Despite the disruption, swift action from emergency services and utility crews ensured that the situation was handled effectively, highlighting the community’s resilience in the face of unforeseen accidents.
