SALT LAKE CITY — A winter storm sweeping through Utah has brought significant rain to the valleys and snow to the mountains, accompanied by powerful winds that left over a thousand residents without power on Tuesday morning.
Rocky Mountain Power reported that at approximately 2 p.m., just under 300 customers were still experiencing outages in northern Utah, a considerable decrease from nearly 1,700 earlier in the day. In addition to northern Utah, some outages were also noted in the southern and eastern parts of the state.
The utility company attributed most of the power outages to the high winds, which are expected to continue throughout the day. Most affected residents were told that their power would likely be restored before 11 a.m. on Tuesday. In Tooele County, around 13,755 customers experienced power loss for several hours, with service restored by approximately 2 a.m.
The National Weather Service has forecast strong winds with gusts exceeding 60 miles per hour across Utah as the winter storm progresses. In Layton, localized damage has been reported, with residents sharing images of fallen trees, including one shared by FOX 13 News viewer Raymond Bird.
As the storm continues, communities in Utah are encouraged to stay safe and remain prepared for potential further weather-related events, while utility crews work diligently to restore power as quickly as possible.
