Authorities across several counties in southern, central, and eastern Utah are urging residents to remain indoors and secure their homes following a “suspicious death” investigation in Wayne County on Wednesday. The incident has prompted the Wayne County School District to cancel classes for Thursday and Friday, prioritizing the safety of students. The district announced that counselors will be available to support students when classes resume next week.
In response to the unfolding situation, the Wayne Community Health Center and Kazan Memorial Clinic in Escalante will also be closed on Thursday. Local law enforcement officials, including those from Grand County, have launched a search for a suspect linked to the suspicious death.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning via Facebook, advising residents to take extra precautions. “We are asking residents to keep their lights on, lock their doors, and remain home or with others this evening if possible,” the post stated.
Additionally, the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance in locating a 2022 White Subaru Outback with Utah license plates U560YF. Residents who have seen the vehicle within the last 24 hours are encouraged to contact dispatch at 435-896-6471.
