SALT LAKE CITY — Morgan Scalley and Utah football have made headlines with the announcement of former Ute and Carolina Panther offensive tackle Jordan Gross as their new offensive line coach. Gross, who is celebrated for his remarkable career as a consensus All-American at Utah and an All-Pro in the NFL, is set to guide a unit known for its strength and effectiveness in recent seasons.

“Jordan Gross is not only one of the best offensive tackles to ever play the game, he is also an elite teacher and coach,” Scalley remarked. “Jordan has had many opportunities to coach over the past several years at both collegiate and NFL levels, and I’m elated that our offer to come home was one he felt he couldn’t turn down.”

A standout at the University of Utah, Gross was a dominant force on the offensive line, securing multiple accolades in 2002 as he paved the way for a successful professional career. Selected eighth overall by the Carolina Panthers in 2003, he enjoyed an impressive 11-year career, marking his legacy with three Pro Bowl selections and a first-team All-Pro nod in 2008.

Gross expressed his enthusiasm about returning to Utah, stating, “I am beyond excited to be back home at the U. The opportunity to be a part of Coach Scalley’s staff is the chance of a lifetime and great days are ahead. I can’t wait to give everything I have to the O Line group and carry on the proud tradition of OBLOCK. Let’s roll!! Go Utes!!”

His return is more than a mere hiring; it represents a milestone for the program. Gross’ professional accolades provide Utah with enhanced credibility in recruiting, especially for offensive line prospects who aspire to reach similar heights. Moreover, his recent experience coaching at the high school level adds to his ability to connect with young linemen, fostering their growth and technique.

With the previous offensive line coach, Jim Harding, moving to Michigan, Gross’ timing couldn’t be better. His addition brings technical expertise, a cultural link to Utah’s legacy, and promises to help retain key recruits like Kelvin Obot, a top signing in the 2025 class.

While Gross may not have extensive college coaching experience, his knowledge and status in the sport are expected to create an immediate impact. His presence is likely to resonate with five-star recruits, eager to learn from someone who has played at the highest level of the game.

As Utah prepares for a new season, Gross’ hiring is a commitment by Coach Scalley to fortify the offensive line with both power and finesse. The Utes are poised for exciting developments in the upcoming seasons, building off their strong recruiting class and the reinvigoration of their offensive strategies under Gross’ guidance. This is a promising chapter for Utah football, showcasing their enduring commitment to excellence on the field.
