The first match against Italy is scheduled for November 28 in Orlando, Florida, followed by a second meeting on December 1 in Fort Lauderdale. Lavelle pointed to the loss to Portugal as a valuable lesson, highlighting the necessity for the team to play cohesively. “In that first game against Portugal, it was just kind of getting back on the same page and playing as a team,” she stated. Reflecting on their past performance, she noted, “We left disappointed, but knowing we have another opportunity to learn and grow.”
Head coach Emma Hayes shares the sentiment, stressing the importance of a prepared mindset as they face Italy, a team that has been developing a strong performance level. She acknowledged the awareness of players regarding Italy’s quality, citing that many are familiar with Italian clubs through their participation in the Champions League. “I think it’s a team that’s been building this level of performance for a while,” Hayes said. “We can’t start our game like we did in the opening game last camp.”
