COLUMBUS, Ohio — U.S. women’s national team head coach Emma Hayes provided an update on Trinity Rodman, confirming that the young forward is “fine and in training” following an injury she sustained during the SheBelieves Cup match against Argentina on Sunday. Rodman, 23, attracted concern when she was seen in visible pain after a collision with 18-year-old Argentinian defender Milagros Martin. Despite the injury, Rodman was able to leave the field on her own and demonstrated resilience by jogging briefly near the touchline before she was substituted out. The U.S. team maintained their lead, winning the match 2-0 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Rodman has dealt with chronic back issues in the past, which she has referred to as a long-term injury that results in constant pain. In 2022, she took a significant break from play to address this concern. However, in a positive turn of events, she was spotted participating in warm-ups and training with the U.S. squad on Tuesday, reassuring fans and teammates alike.

Hayes also addressed the situation of Lilly Reale, a 22-year-old Gotham FC fullback who suffered a foot injury in the same match and has since returned home for recovery.

Looking ahead, the U.S. women’s national team is set to face their northern rival, Canada, on Wednesday evening in the round-robin format of the tournament. Canada recently demonstrated a resurgence by defeating Colombia 4-1, marking their first victory since June 2025, thus breaking a winless streak that began after their last encounter with the U.S., which they lost 3-0.

Canada’s improved performance against Colombia showcased their cohesive defensive strategy, making it challenging for the Colombian team, which includes notable striker Linda Caicedo, to create substantial scoring opportunities. Vanessa Gilles, a member of the Canadian team, expressed confidence in their growth under head coach Casey Stoney, highlighting the team’s commitment to applying feedback and reflecting on their progress.

Hayes recognizes the significance of the impending match, acknowledging the rivalry and anticipating a more challenging contest against Canada. “I think this will be a much tougher test,” she remarked, indicating her team’s readiness to face any obstacles ahead.
