USC Men’s Golf Team Struggles at William H. Tucker Invitational: What Went Wrong?

At the William H. Tucker Invitational held on September 21 at the University of New Mexico Championship Course, USC’s men’s golf team finished in 11th place out of 17 teams. The Trojans dropped two spots on the final day, concluding the tournament with a total score of 23-over par. Only two teams managed to finish at or below par, with Colorado finishing at -2 and UNLV even.

Despite having a promising start, USC struggled on the final day, recording a score of 23-over par. They ended just one stroke behind 10th place, which was occupied by Arkansas State at 22-over. Head coach expressed disappointment, stating the team lacked toughness and lost too many strokes on shorter holes. The coach noted that players struggled with putting speed and adjusting to changing conditions, which hindered their ability to compete effectively against top teams.

Junior led the Trojans with a score of 77 (+5) on the final day, finishing the tournament at one-over par and tying for 26th place. He recorded one birdie and six bogeys, four of which occurred on the front nine. Three USC players—senior and a sophomore—tied for 54th place at eight-over par for the tournament.

Competing as an individual, freshman also performed well, matching Junior’s best score of five-over par for the day, concluding the tournament at ten-over and tying for 66th. Another junior on the team finished the final day with a score of 83 (+11), ending at 18-over par.

USC will next participate in the SMU Trinity Forest Invitational, slated for October 6-8 at Trinity Forest G.C. in Dallas. For further information regarding the USC men’s golf team, including their schedule and results, visit USCTrojans.com or follow them on Instagram and X @USCMensGolf.
