The legendary Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt made a surprise appearance during SNL’s “The Californians: Wedding” sketch, causing immediate drama while donning a blond wig.
Though details about Saturday Night Live’s historic Season 50 remain under wraps, it’s worth noting that SNL seasons following a Summer Olympics often feature sketches related to the games. For instance, swimming superstar Michael Phelps hosted the Season 34 premiere in 2008. Usain Bolt’s cameo stands as one of SNL’s memorable Olympics-related moments.
Bolt’s entrance happened in the third installment of the recurring sketch, a soap-opera parody centered around characters obsessed with traffic and completely airheaded. Similar to Justin Bieber’s February 2013 appearance on “The Californians,” Bolt arrives looking extremely blond and instantly stirs drama in the mansion.
The sketch featured SNL stars Kenan Thompson, Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis, Christina Applegate, Kate McKinnon, Fred Armisen, Taran Killam, Vanessa Bayer, Bobby Moynihan, and guest star Usain Bolt.
In Christina Applegate’s October 13, 2012 episode, her character Brie is set to marry Stuart (Fred Armisen), but last-minute surprises threaten their wedding. The sketch follows the mainstay’s style, loaded with SNL luminaries. Armisen, alongside Hader, Sudeikis, McKinnon, Bayer, Thompson, Killam, and Moynihan, create a hilariously chaotic environment.
As Stuart and Brie discuss wedding plans with their planner (Killam), Devin (Hader) walks in, sparking a slew of San Fernando Valley-accented driving directions. The housekeeper (Bayer) reveals Brie’s alleged fraud, announcing her bouncing checks at an outlet mall, and her first husband (Moynihan) emerges from a coma, demanding answers. Amid this turmoil, Bolt’s tease cameo adds to the drama.
The scene cuts to Bolt in a blond wig, delivering lines in a perfect “Californians” accent, saying, “I’m looking for my biological father,” and humorously adding, “I like, totally sprinted here.” The revelation prompts Armisen’s character to ask who he’s looking at, resulting in a hilarious side-eye from Bolt while Killam’s character mouths, “it’s not me.”
