Fiji is set to welcome United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau for an official visit from today until March 1, 2026, as part of efforts to enhance bilateral relations between the two nations. During this visit, Landau is scheduled to engage in discussions with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and other senior officials regarding strategic cooperation aimed at advancing Fiji’s national development and fostering regional solidarity.

A significant event during Landau’s trip will be the signing of the Compact Development Funding Agreement between the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the Fijian government. This agreement is designed to promote private sector-led growth, improve trade opportunities, and attract investment to the island nation.

Landau’s visit is part of a broader tour of the Pacific region that includes stops in Hawaii, Tonga, and Samoa, following his participation in the Pacific Agenda Summit at the East-West Centre in Honolulu earlier this week. This regional engagement underscores the strengthened commitment of the United States to collaborate with Pacific nations on critical issues, including economic development and regional partnerships.

As Fiji looks to enhance its international relationships, this visit is expected to lay the groundwork for future cooperation and growth, showcasing the potential that lies in strengthened ties between the United States and Pacific island nations.
