A new Close Protection Training program, facilitated by the United States Government, is currently underway at the Police Mobile Force Headquarters in Nasinu, Fiji. The training, which was inaugurated by Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police (A/DCP) Aporosa Lutunauga, aims to enhance the skills of Close Protection Officers (CPOs), also known as Personal Protection Officers (PPOs), who are crucial in ensuring the safety of high-profile individuals.
During the opening remarks, A/DCP Lutunauga emphasized the considerable responsibilities CPOs bear when safeguarding VIPs and VVIPs, warning that any lapse in their duties could have severe repercussions for both their organizations and the nation. He underscored the importance of understanding fundamental principles inherent to their roles, stressing that a comprehensive grasp of their responsibilities is imperative for the successful execution of their duties.
Fiji Police officers frequently serve as personal protection officers for visiting dignitaries and government officials, underscoring the critical nature of this training. The support received from the U.S. Embassy in Suva was also acknowledged by A/DCP Lutunauga, who highlighted the importance of international collaboration in strengthening police capabilities through specialized training initiatives.
This latest training effort aligns with ongoing educational enhancements within the Fiji Police Force, which has recently included various programs supported by international partners aimed at improving law enforcement practices in the Pacific region. For instance, the Fiji Police Academy has seen successful completion of many initiatives, such as the Investigators Level 2 course and the ongoing efforts by the UK College of Policing to enhance leadership skills among officers.
Overall, such initiatives contribute positively to the region’s safety and justice, fostering collaboration between law enforcement agencies across the Pacific. The training programs represent a hopeful commitment towards better safety protocols and operational readiness, aiming to create a more secure environment for all citizens and visiting dignitaries alike. Through continuous enhancement of training and capacity building, there lies a promising pathway for improved public trust in law enforcement and community safety initiatives in Fiji and beyond.
