A new Close Protection Training program, initiated by the United States Government, is currently taking place at the Police Mobile Force Headquarters in Nasinu, Fiji. The program was launched by Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police (A/DCP) Aporosa Lutunauga and aims to bolster the skills of Close Protection Officers (CPOs), also referred to as Personal Protection Officers (PPOs). These professionals play a vital role in safeguarding high-profile individuals.
In his opening remarks, A/DCP Lutunauga highlighted the immense responsibilities that CPOs hold when providing security for VIPs and VVIPs, cautioning that any errors in their duties could lead to serious consequences for both their organizations and the nation. He stressed that a thorough understanding of their roles and responsibilities is essential for the effective execution of their tasks.
Fiji Police officers frequently serve as personal protection officers for visiting dignitaries and government officials, underlining the significance of this training initiative. A/DCP Lutunauga also acknowledged the support from the U.S. Embassy in Suva, which plays a key role in enhancing police capabilities through specialized training efforts and international collaboration.
This training program is part of a broader effort to improve law enforcement practices within the Fiji Police Force. Recent initiatives supported by international partners include the successful completion of various programs, such as the Investigators Level 2 course and ongoing training in leadership skills spearheaded by the UK College of Policing.
These training efforts contribute positively to the safety and justice landscape of the region, fostering collaboration among law enforcement agencies across the Pacific. They signify a hopeful commitment to better safety protocols and operational readiness, ultimately aiming to create a secure environment for both citizens and visiting dignitaries. By continuously enhancing training and building capacity, there exists a promising path toward increased public trust in law enforcement and community safety initiatives throughout Fiji and beyond.
